When scrolling through Instagram or TikTok, it’s easy to overlook science content, but the STEMpathize Social Media Team aims to change that. Their team's mission is simple yet lucrative: make STEM content engaging, accessible, and understandable for students. One intern helping bring this mission to life is Eklavya Gahlot, a junior from Old Bridge, New Jersey.
Eklavya attends the Marine Academy of Science and Technology (MAST), and hopes to pursue a future career in immune system research. In his free time Eklavya enjoys sketching and creating digital designs, all interests that made the Social Media Team a natural fit.
“It’s design and outreach combined,” Eklavya explains, when describing what drew him to the team. After discovering STEMpathize while searching for a remote internship, he quickly applied to become an intern. “The process was simple, I filled out a Google form, had a short interview, and a couple weeks later I was welcomed to the team,” he says. He now works alongside five other interns under Social Media director Diya Bhatt.
Eklavya’s role as an intern on the team is to create 1-2 posts per week. These have a broad range, from fun explanations of STEM concepts for younger students to academic and career guidance for older students. Eklavya states one of his favorite projects involved using emojis to represent various biological processes; this is just one example of the team’s creative and collaborative work. According to Eklavya, being part of STEMpathize has strengthened his confidence, communication skills, and taught him the value of teamwork. When asked which emoji best represents their team best he chose 🌐: “It’s all about connection, outreach, and sharing STEM with more students every day.”
For students eager to mix creativity with science, the Social Media Team at STEMpathize is the perfect place to start!
