This article features Yosan Bereket (Grade 12) from the Website Design Team. They work on redesigning and organizing sections of the STEMpathize website, as well as working on weekly projects. Each week, “the interns get assigned a role each week like leading a project or they get assigned a section of the site to fix." Yosan likes their team director, who asks them weekly icebreaker questions to get to know the interns. Additionally, Yosan enjoys how they work with people their age.
Yosan’s team recently worked on the following: “Update the STEM scientists page, research about scientists, update the STEM career page, and update info on a STEM career.” Yosan also mentioned they’ve found problems on the site, fixed them and revised past projects. For projects, the team brainstorms ideas on a document, votes for projects by popularity, and talks about what they want to do with the site and what part they want to do. From there, the team divides and conquers the work.
Yosan recalls onboarding with “new interns, nicely greeted, introduced to the whole team, started assignments.” They learned about the website, and the assignments were easy to complete, making them enjoyable. For advice for new interns, they replied “don’t be afraid to think outside of the box and try to do new things”.
Moving onto growth and future outlook, Yosan recalls growing professionally since joining STEMpathize. They said that their communication, teamwork, ability to take in feedback, art and design skills, website design skills, and self organization drastically improved.
Yosan’s favorite part about being on the team is seeing the website come together, after adding new projects, features, fixing bugs, and making an impact on the STEMpathize website. They like collaborating with others, and how the weekly tasks are fun and engaging. Yosan describes their team’s impact as, “Always being creative!”
